Been a while...

It's been a while since I've posted, but I was <strike>forced</strike> asked to post this:

1. What is your occupation? I'm the trainer for an Internet company that creates and manages Web sites for TV stations around the country (ibsys.com).

2. What color are your socks right now? White, with a little gold stitching

3. What are you listening to right now? The cat purring.

4. What was the last thing you ate? Peanuts and Stollen Christmas bread.

5. Can you drive a stick shift? Is the Pope Catholic?

6. If you were a crayon, what color would you be? I always liked the Orange-Yellow (or is it Yellow-Orange?) because it was an exact match to Kraft Macaroni & Cheese.

7. Last person you spoke to on the phone? One of our site editors in Seattle.

8. Do you like the person who sent this to/tagged you? Yep.

9. How old are you today? 32 (which is why I'm doing this today, and not in a couple of weeks)

10. Favorite drink? Do I have to pick just one? Amaretto on ice, tequila shots (but it's gotta be good tequila -- not the corrosive stuff that goes in Margaritas), dirty martini w/ extra olives, gin & tonic, the list goes on

11. What is your favorite sport to watch? Golf (seriously, yes)

12. Have you ever dyed your hair? nope, though I've often contemplated it to reduce the growing number of grey strands.

13. Pets? 2 cats -- Timonium and Dante

14. Favorite food? Pizza, pasta, you know -- the less healthy, the more I like.

15. What was the last movie you watched? A Prairie Home Companion

16. Favorite day of the year? Jan. 7

17. What do you do to vent anger? I internalize is (which is bad), but I don't get angry that often (which is good)

18. What was your favorite toy as a child? Legos, stuffed animals.

19. What is your favorite fall or spring? Spring

20. Hugs or kisses? Hugs

21. Cherries or blueberries? Cherries

22. Do you want your friends to e-mail you back? If they want.

23. Who is most likely to respond/do this meme? Kairosvoice, since I'll see him later today.

24. Who is least likely to respond? Dunno

25. Living arrangements? Bought a house this year with Kairosvoice -- live here with the cats.

26. When was the last time you cried? A couple of years ago.

27. What is on the floor of your closet? Plastic totes with linens.

28. Who is the friend you have had the longest that you are sending this to/tagging? Kairosvoice

29. What did you do last night? Went to the Twin Cities Gay Men's Chorus concert with a group of friends. Then Kairosvoice and I came home, played a card game and reduced the quantity of alcohol in the house.

30. Favorite smells? Lumber, home cooking, good perfume/cologne

31. What inspires you? Yikes! I could write all day about this one. Basically, I like looking at relatively simple things, then contemplate all amazing forces behind it. That complexity of the commonplace amazes me. For example, I love watching the sun rise. More specifically, I love watching the land emerge from the darkness of the night. Okay, that's nice. But then I start thinking about all the forces involved -- the Earth spinning around the sun, the earth rotating on its axis, the steady, (seemingly) unending nuclear reaction in the sun that generates the light, the photons of light that are suddenly hitting the Earth (are they waves or particles?), etc. That amazes me and inspires me.

32. What are you afraid of? Hitting a child while driving through a neighborhood.

33. Plain, cheese or spicy hamburgers? Cheese

34. Favorite dog breed? Too many good breeds to pick just one.

35. Number of keys on your key ring? Five keys, plus one magnetic key-card thingy on three rings held together by a carabineer.

36. Number of years at your current job? As trainer: 1.5 years. With Internet Broadcasting: 6 years.

37. Favorite day of the week? Saturday

38. How many states have you lived in? Arizona, Texas, Nebraska, Maryland, Minnesota -- 5

39. Favorite holidays? Ones where I get to be with family and friends.

40. Ever driven a motorcycle or heavy machinery? No, but I did ride a Segway once.

Persistence Pays Off

Okay, I'm not the first person to say it, but it's true and I have proof.

First, I need to explain my latest utter waste of time.

Those who know me know that I have only a passing interest in Hondas. So I thought it would be neat to scour the Web looking for Honda commercials from the United States and around the world. I've even managed to capture a couple off television.

Of course, there is only an infinitesimally small benefit to be harvested from such an endeavor. "Oooh... I have 46 Honda commercials on my hard drive. Aren't I special."

In searching for the elusive ads, I came across talk about an ad for a new type of Honda diesel engine in England. The spot features Garrison Keillor "singing" a spoken-word song as belching diesel engines torment happy little computer-generated bunnies and generally pollute an otherwise idyllic world.

Mind you, this ad has apparently won some serious advertising awards.

I even found a couple of clips for the ad, but they were all embedded into flash programs (not stand-alone flash, which would have been easily downloadable).

But after searching for about an hour, I came across this link, which offers a downloadable version of the ad (after clicking through a bit, of course).

See? There's something to be said (and something to be gained) for not giving up.

Now if I could just convince Honda to mirror world.honda.com in the U.S. so it wouldn't be so painfully slow! Not that I visit the site that often. Me? No. Hardly, um, ever. Really.

I've been meaning to do this for a while -- create a livejournal blog, that is. Is this a blog? It sure looks like one to me.

Why have I resisted? Could it be that every time I create another username and password on yet another anonymous server that I feel a warm piece of my soul being sucked into the cold digital netherworld and therefore I resist these unfeeling machines in a feeble attempt to retain my scraps of humanity?

Or maybe I'm just lazy?

Either way, here I am, world.

I shouldn't be so bitter about digitizing myself. I work at an internet company. No, I should be happy scatter my digital self across unseen microprocessors. I should find joy in the fact that anyone can read anything about me anytime, anywhere.

After all, it's the same Internet that lets me do the same to others.

And that's what it comes down to in my opinion. It's no longer enough to merely peruse the Internet. The tools available make it silly not to take part.

Life's to short to be an observer. I want to be an active participant of the mysteries the world has to offer. Even if that means occupying a few more kilobytes of your computer's memory.

01100111
